Day Trips
To most travelers, Memphis means one thing: Elvis. While no trip to Memphis would be complete without a visit to Graceland (800/238-2000), the city also boasts a number of other attractions. The Beale Street Historic District is the cradle of Mississippi Delta blues music, and nighttime still finds plenty of traditional blues, jazz, and rock 'n' roll in the area.
Local Food
Like many towns of the South, Memphis means great barbecue and joints that offer meat and threes, a meal consisting of one type of meat (fried chicken, catfish, ribs, meatloaf, etc.) and three vegetable sides (greens, potatoes, squash, beans, etc.), usually served also with some type of bread or biscuit. Basically, what other parts of the US may refer to as homestyle. Good eating!
